13 Natural Cures For Headaches Made Simple

Natural cures for headaches are one of the most popular ways to solve your headaches.

Many women and men experience headaches every day. If this sounds like your predicament, there are many ways you can relieve it.

It used to be that the cure-all for a headache was aspirin and a cocktail, but times have changed, and new solutions have come to light.

Some of the common headaches that can plague you are tension headaches, migraines, and sinus headaches, to name a few.

So before you reach for the aspirin bottle or that bottle of liquor you have hidden in the back of the cabinet, take a moment and read this post.

You may find the solution that will help you get rid of your headache.

I know you might have tried a few of these before for relieving your headache, but let me tell you about a few that I have tried that worked for me and some of my remedy peeps.

1. Drinking Water (Hydrated)

Drinking enough water has been proven to help alleviate headaches and reduce their intensity.

The cause of this is usually being dehydrated and not drinking enough water during the day or before.

If you are getting headaches from dehydration or lack of water, try increasing your water intake for a day or two and see if that helps your headache.

If you are having problems staying hydrated, carry a bottle of water around with you.

You can sip it throughout your day to keep you from feeling dehydrated and avoid those headaches.

2. Turn off the lights

If you are one of those kinds of people who are bothered by bright lights, this might be the culprit of your headaches.

Some of us are sensitive to bright lights, which will make our headache symptoms worse.

If this is you, then try to turn those bright lights down.

I get headaches from bright lights all of the time.

I always wear sunglasses and a hat when out in the sun, which helps a lot.

I will sit or lay down in a dark room for 30 minutes or longer when I get them.

It just depends on how bad it is at the time.

So if you are like me, try sitting in dim light room.

3. Cold Compress

A cold compress is a fantastic remedy for headaches and a great way to get rid of them fast!

So when you feel that headache coming on, reach for the freeze pops or a bag of frozen peas and put it on the back of your head and neck where the pain is.

The cold will numb the pain and help relax your tense muscles.

Medically speaking, the cold will constrict your blood vessels and reduce inflammation.

The inflammation causes the pain, so having a cold compress on it will eliminate that pesky redness and throbbing feeling you get in your temples, forehead, or eyes.

4. Warm Compress

Another alternative would be a warm compress, some people like this more than a cold compress because they say it feels better on their skin.

The warmth will dilate your blood vessels and eliminate that inflammation causing the pain.

When this happens, the tense muscles that are causing your headache relax, making the pain go away.

Some people like to do the old cold hot treatment or vice versa, hot cold.

It's all up to you, but one may help you out more than the other.

So try both methods.

It's harmless and let me know which one works best for you.

5. Remove Some Head Pressure

In some cases, a headache is caused by something pressing against your head.

Usually, this is a result of wearing a hat or a headband.

It might also be a tight hair bun or ponytail.

  • Try to remove your hat or headband and see if that helps your headache.
  • If not, try loosening your hair up a little bit and see if that alleviates the headache.
  • If you are wearing your hair in a high bun, try loosening it up a little and see if it helps your headache.

6. Exercise

Exercise is a great way to relieve any headache or pain you may be experiencing, and it's the least invasive way to get rid of a headache.

Start walking, jogging, or biking for 30 minutes a day, and you will notice a difference after two days.

If you feel your headache reoccur, try adding in more exercise time.

Exercising increases blood flow and circulation, which relaxes tight muscles.

This gets the blood and oxygen flowing to your brain, head, and body, reducing the suffering of headaches and migraines.

7. Herbal Teas

Herbs and spices are another excellent treatment to get rid of a headache fast!

Some herbal teas are known for treating headaches and migraines, so why not try one of these?

Some herbs to try would be peppermint or chamomile tea, ginger tea, or a hot cup of black cherry juice.

All of these herbal teas work great and calm the nerves in the head to relieve tension and stress.

8. Improve Sleep Quality

A good night's sleep will increase circulation and blood flow to your head and keep your mind focused and relaxed throughout the day.

This will reduce headaches from stress or tension and help you stay relaxed all day.

When I don't sleep enough, I get migraines and headaches more often throughout the day.

It seems the older I get, the more sleep I need, lol.

Getting sound sleep every night will help your body recover and heal faster and flush out any toxins in your system.

So it's a win-win for your overall health.

Try your best to get at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night to maintain a healthy mind and body.

9. Try Acupuncture

Acupuncture goes back thousands of years as a form of alternative medicine and effectively treats most headache symptoms.

The Chinese were the first to use this method

If you choose this method, make sure you go to a qualified acupuncturist.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into the skin at certain "acupuncture points" on the body to stimulate key nerves.

10. Massaging

Muscle therapy, which involves the manipulation of body muscle tissues using massage, has been practiced for thousands of years and is used in many countries around the world.

I know this seems odd, but it's not that weird when you think about it.

Massaging your scalp or temples can quickly relieve that annoying headache!

Massaging your scalp will eliminate that tension in your temples and headache pain in no time.

Rubbing between your eyebrows will give you some relief, mainly because the massage will help you relax by refocusing the nerves and muscles in your head.

The neck area is another area that can cause headaches, so massaging will also help relieve tension headaches, sinus headaches, and migraines.

11. Relaxation Methods

When it comes to relaxation techniques, there are many different methods that you can use to relax your mind and body.

My number one favorite is meditation because it completely clears your head of stress and pain.

It's simple to do too! All you have to do is sit down in a quiet spot and close your eyes.

Then, focus on your breathing and try to clear your mind of all thoughts.

Yoga is another great way to relax because it is great for relieving stress, but it will also give you a great workout.

I know that deep belly breathing sounds strange, but it goes along with meditation.

12. Try Caffeine

Did you know that Caffeine is most of today's pain medication?

Well, it's true, and it's used to relieve headaches caused by dehydration or lack of sleep.

Caffeine has a stimulating effect that triggers a release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain called adenosine, which constricts blood vessels, and relaxes muscles in the head.

However, Caffeine may have the opposite effect in some cases and actually cause headaches.

For example, if you're sensitive to Caffeine or have high blood pressure, it may cause your blood vessels to constrict more and cause a pounding headache.

So Caffeine is a catch-22. You will have to decide if it's for you or not.

13. Essential Oils

Essential oils like lavender or peppermint oil are believed to have some healing qualities and help ease the pain caused by headaches and migraines.

However, some people may have a problem with the smells of essential oils.

So you may have to try a few different ones before you find one that works well for you.

To relieve the pain from headaches, place a few drops of essential oil in your hands and inhale deeply.
